STA Award Course

The STA Award Course in Teaching Swimming Level 2 qualification, is the perfect stepping stone for anybody that is 16 and over and wishes to teach non-swimmer, beginner and improver lessons.

This qualification could appeal to:
• Swim club swimmers, students
• Leisure duty manager, leisure assistants, lifeguards
• Fitness instructors, personal trainers
• Teaching assistants, sports coaches

The course is a mixture of practical and theory content, the learner will achieve knowledge and understanding of the role of the Swimming teacher. The course will also give learners hands-on experience of teaching swimming.

The following units are covered within this qualification:
• Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
• Planning, Delivering, Assessing and Evaluating Swimming Lessons
• Understand a Swimming Teacher’s Role
• Understanding the Health and Safety Requirements for an Aquatic Environment
• Understanding the Scientific and Learning Theories Relevant to Swimming Teaching

• Practical teaching exam
• Portfolios
• Ongoing Tutor assessment

Entry Requirements

• Be 16 years of age
• Hold current membership of STA

• 38 contact hour
• Over 6 days
• 20 hours of self-study
